Metal furniture & House-funk artist

When I was 6 years old I watched a cartoon in the living room. I don’t remember the name of the cartoon, but I remember exactly where I was sitting, what I was doing and how I felt. One part of the episode of the cartoon has stayed with me my whole life. It went like this; a boy and a girl were walking together on a hill looking out over the city where they lived. Everything had color and radiated joy….

But suddenly their colorful world slowly turned gray. The gray came closer and closer and catched them up on the hill. So they turned completely gray themselves. Their skin, their clothes, their hair… nothing, absolutely nothing, had any color left and meanwhile all cheerfulness disappeared. I remember exactly how bad and scary I found this episode as a 6-year-old girl.

This cartoon made such a huge impression on me. I am convinced that’s where my BIG love for color started. Everything I make is extremely colorful and I hope to bring a touch of fun and cheerfulness to a world that is beautiful from its own,  but is unfortunately slowly becoming less colorful with the years. Let’s add some mystical funk to spice up the concrete jungles

“The gray came closer and closer.”

I grew up in a small coastal town in the north of the Netherlands. My world was small but wild. My father taught me street smarts at an early age. He was (and still is) a bird of paradise who often flew off track, but always showed me that anything in life is possible. He taught me the hard way but I am grateful to him.

I lived in Ibiza half of my childhood and early twenties. I experienced the grazy party scene, but the hippie side of the Island appealed to me more after a while. It took years to discover my own hippie side behind my wild lipstick image. This search involved a lot of creativity and expression. But also just hard work, sweat and tears.

Finding out who I am, who I want to be and what I want to do has been a bumpy road. A journey from fancy pink lipstick to yoga and an off-grid living in Spain. Along the way I shook off the familiar that didn’t fit and wasn’t me anymore. Sometimes flawlessly but often with a big cloud of dust behind me. Every new turn brought me more to life. So, the search for my true self has been multi-layered.

Just like my art projects, only the many layers give it depth and bring it to life. Every layer always feels scary, almost like a failure in the beginning, but in the end it was always meant to be exactly that way. Just as life has shaped me through fun,  mistakes and adventure, a Lipstick Hippie work of art is also created through many layers of love, trial and error before it comes to life to kick  ass
